This small town, surrounded by stunning scenery of the hillsides and rice paddy fields, is home to diverse ethnic minorities with rich cultural heritage. During your trip from Mumbai to Vietnam, If you’re wondering about how to get to Sapa from Hanoi, here are some suggestions for you:
Hanoi To Sapa By Train
There is no airport in Sapa Vietnam so the very first and most convenient way for you is to travel by train. It takes around eight hours from Hanoi to Lao Cai Railway Station, from there, you need to take a short drive to reach Sapa.
Depend on your itinerary, you can choose the proper time to book the train ticket. However, it’s better to book in advance as it can get full during the high season months or at least it may help you get the nicer cabins.
To save your time and money, take the overnight express train and sleep throughout the journey is not a bad idea. There are 2 main kinds of train cabin: four-berth share cabin and two-berth sleepers (private cabin). The four-berth share cabin containing four berths, two upper and two lower is cheaper but the private cabin is quieter and more comfortable. Both have air-conditioner so you don’t have to worry about taking your vacation in summer.
As you can see, the price also fluctuates depending on the time you go and what option you choose. The ticket tends to increase a little bit higher during the holiday period.
Hanoi To Sapa By Bus
Another alternative option for your Hanoi to Sapa trip is to travel by bus. Buses depart at all times of day from Hanoi. Therefore, taking the bus is slightly easier and you don’t have to transfer to another transport as the terminus is in the center of town.
Bus ticket prices fluctuate depending on your choice. Prices range from $10 for the basic bus lines up to around $20 or more for the luxury ones. In Vietnam, some shuttle bus even drops you at wherever you want along the road to Sapa.
The disadvantage is that it’s still going to take nine hours or so and of course there are no beds on board. Though you do pass some lovely scenery on the way to Sapa Vietnam, the mountain roads can be quite windy and dangerous. Should safety be your priority, you’d better take the longer but safer train journey.

Spending at least three days from Hanoi to Sapa, you’ll be amazed at incredible scenery up through northwest Vietnam.
